Training course on Introduction to Digital Cartography and GIS Mapping In Nairobi and Mombasa; Kenya

Cartography is the knowledge associated with the art, science and technology of maps and seeks to portray spatial relationships among selected phenomena. Cartography has undergone a radical transformation through the introduction of digital technology but the fundamental principles remain the same and unchanged.

This course provides an introduction to digital cartography, its principles, concepts, software and hardware necessary to produce good maps, especially in the context of GIS.

The qualifying participants shall be Land surveyors, Geodesist, Engineers, Geometricians, Geo-informationists, Cartographers, Geologist, geophysicist, and other Earth Research Scientists

Course Objectives

i.                    Understand the various purposes, roles and representations of cartographic presentation.

ii.                  Understand the various purposes, roles and representations of cartographic presentation.

iii.               To gain and practice the use of cartographic language in the creative design of digital maps.

iv.               Gain skills in digital cartographic design, representation and production in a GIS environment.

v.                  Gain an understanding of digital cartographic software and its uses.

 Methodology

The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

Key Notes

i. The participant must be conversant with English.

ii. Upon completion of training the participant will be issued with an Authorized Training Certificate

iii. Course duration is flexible and the contents can be modified to fit any number of days.

iv. The course fee includes facilitation training materials, 2 coffee breaks, buffet lunch and a Certificate upon successful completion of Training.
