Shelter & settlement planning in emergencies helps you understand strategies and practices that are intrinsic to the shelter sector and humanitarian sector in general. The training aims to improve the effectiveness of specialist and non – specialist in emergency response. This training aims to equip participants with the skills required to design a shelter and settlements response in a humanitarian crisis after natural disasters. It will provide participants with an overview of shelter and settlements in emergencies, their relevance in humanitarian programmes and an understanding of the principles and practice of humanitarian shelter response.
Duration
The training will take approximately 5 days.
Target audience
The training will target Individuals working in the humanitarian and shelter sectors for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, United Nations agencies or Non-Governmental Organizations, or Governments, particularly agencies or institutions actively involved in the delivery of humanitarian assistance through shelter and settlements responses at global or country level.
Course Objectives
By the end of training the participant should be able to:
·Understand the range of possible impacts of settlement and shelter upon local, national and regional security
·Be in position to understand the range of transitional settlement options available for support
·Understand the mechanisms and phases of coordination and response
Methodology
The methods of training on Shelter & Settlement Planning will include group works, tutorials, guided sessions by the instructor, and presentations among the trainees. The course instructors are well conversant with the concepts of Shelter & Settlement Planning. They understand the impacts of settlement and shelter upon local, national and regional security.
